Adoption Guidelines:

  • You must be at least 23 years of age to adopt from our rescue.
  • You must have a fenced in yard.  Exceptions are sometimes made but 90% of our dogs require a fenced in yard.
  • You must have current or previous pet ownership to verify vet history.
  • A complete adoption application must be submitted.  We will not process incomplete applications.
  • You must own your own home due to leasing/renting complications that can occur.
  • Applicant submitting the application must be the same person adopting the dog, we do not adopt dogs for other people or as gifts.
  • Current or past pets must be spayed/neutered, up to date on all vaccinations, heartworm tested annually and on heartworm prevention.
  • Puppies will not be placed in a home where they are left alone for more than 8 hours.
  • Young dogs will not be placed with elderly adults.

 Adoption Process:

  • Once we receive your completed application you will receive an email or phone call from us within 24 hours confirming if you meet our adoption guidlines.
  • Once your vet reference and personal references are verified you will receive an email or phone call to set up an appointment to meet the dog or puppy you are interested in adopting.
  • After your meeting with the dog, the foster parent will consult with the director and we will schedule a visit to your home.
  • Once the home visit is completed and approved we will contact you with a date and time that you can pick up your new family member.
  • Follow up home visits will be completed after 6 months of adoption.

Please read over the Adoption Guidelines and Process Tab before submitting an application.  We will not process incomplete applications.  HART of IL reserves the right to deny any application at any time for any reason

Can't Adopt - Donate and Help Us Save A Dog!

We are always in need of donations. We will accept anything. We are in need of dog food, crates, collars, leashes, toys, shampoo, garbage bags, paper towels, bleach and baby wipes. We are also collecting used inkjet cartridges and cell phones that we can recycle and get money for. Gas cards are always appreciated as we spend a lot of money on gas for transporting, home visits and vet visits. We will also accept items that we can place for sale on EBAY to raise funds to help with our outstanding medical bills. Monetary donations are also graciously accepted.
